I believe the concept of a “drifting boat” is about seeing yourself as a small vessel and your opponent as the waves. You rise and fall with their rhythm, adjusting to their movement, and when the wind blows, you set sail together.
When they raise their sword, I follow by raising mine.
When they advance two steps, I retreat two steps, maintaining a constant relative state.
The moment they falter or lose focus, I break away, leap out, and strike decisively.
